Is ChatGPT an AI agent?

The original ChatGPT was a chatbot: you type something, it types back. Very smart, but still just talking.

The newer ChatGPT can actually go do things. It can browse the web for you, run through a checklist, fill out forms, and hand you back a finished result — that's the agent part. There's even a mode literally called "agent" you can turn on.

So if a friend asks "is ChatGPT an agent?" — the honest answer is: it's both, depending on which button you press. When it's just chatting, it's a chatbot. When you ask it to go do something, it becomes an agent.
