Is it an AI agent?
Is Google Gemini an AI agent?
Short answer: it's mostly a chatbot right now, but Google is turning it into one.
Gemini is Google's answer to ChatGPT. You type or talk to it and it answers, writes, summarizes, and helps you think — all the classic chatbot moves, done well.
The agent bits are showing up now. On Android phones and inside Gmail, Docs, and Chrome, Gemini can actually take actions: pull info out of your emails, draft replies, look things up across tabs, and even work through longer tasks in a mode Google calls "Deep Research."
So: for a casual user in 2026, Gemini is a very capable AI assistant that's growing into a real agent — especially if you already live inside Google's apps.
