Is Anthropic's Claude an AI agent?
Short answer: it's a thoughtful chatbot that's grown real agent skills.
Claude, made by a company called Anthropic, started life as a very calm, careful chatbot — the kind that's especially good at writing, editing, and thinking through problems with you.
In the last year or so it's picked up proper agent abilities. It can now use tools, browse the web, work with your files, and even control a computer to click through websites and finish tasks for you. It's careful about it, and it tends to check in before doing anything risky.
So today: use Claude as a chatbot for anything wordy, and switch on its agent features when you want it to actually go do the thing instead of just talking about it.
