Is Microsoft Copilot an AI agent?
Short answer: yes, more and more — it's built to do things, not just talk.
Copilot lives inside the Microsoft tools you already use: Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams. That's the point — instead of asking a chatbot in a separate tab, you ask the assistant that's already looking at your document or your inbox.
It can genuinely do things: summarize a long email thread, turn a rough set of notes into a polished document, pull numbers out of a spreadsheet, or catch you up on a meeting you missed. Microsoft has also launched "Copilot agents" that can run longer, multi-step tasks for you at work.
For a normal person in 2026, Copilot is one of the most agent-like tools out there — largely because it's already plugged into the apps where your actual work lives.
